New packaging innovations are in great demand to improve the sustainability of everyday products. Meanwhile, consumers want convenience and freshness, without compromising on their sustainability principles.

Cyclpac have developed a packaging solution that could change traditional approaches in the Coffee industry for good, replacing ‘mixed’ laminate packaging materials.

With increasing consumer awareness associated with purchasing decisions’ environmental impact, demand is increasing for products with packaging that can be re-used or recycled.

Research into shopping habits in 2021 shows that 60% of consumers are buying more sustainable or ethical products, despite feeling stress about health and the economy, with most saying that they will continue to do so. (Accenture 2021)

While it is challenging for producers and brands to meet ethical packaging demands without compromising safety/product protection standards and visual appearance, it is critical we evolve products with available technologies to accelerate this transition.

Cyclpac uses the latest flexible packaging industry technology offerings to provide packaging that is recyclable, made from recycled plastic, reusable or compostable.

Recyclable and sustainable solution for coffee with barrier to oxygen and vapour

Cyclpac mono-structure laminate combines BOPE (Bi-orientated polyethene) (TF-BOPE) and 7-Layer co-extruded PE with barrier to oxygen and vapour.

Developing the sealant layer to hold the release valve internally was essential to the development and required some variant testing. When producing a 90% PE mono structure, the resistance to heat offered by the BOPE was critical to product performance and success.

Creating a design that was visually appealing thanks to ADP, whilst minimising the use of ink range and coverage to maximise material’s end-of-life value was another critical aspect in the overall product design.

The new mono-material PE can be used for a wide range of food, pet food and pharmaceutical packaging solutions, and can be prepared in various formats, including pouch, doy and single-wound sheeting for vertical form fill and seal or flow wrap.

With more consumers buying more sustainable or ethical products, we expect to see an increasing demand for packaging solutions such as these and look forward to supporting material selection, testing, product design and new product launches.
